The Six Signals Behind Every Score
Each signal is independently computed and weighted against the others before a final position is assigned.
Review Intelligence
We ingest and process thousands of verified customer reviews across multiple platforms. Our system weighs recency, volume, and patterns of consistency — not just a star average. Outlier reviews are weighted differently from sustained performance over time.
Sentiment Analysis
Raw star ratings tell only part of the story. We analyze the language inside reviews to detect recurring themes — responsiveness, honesty, workmanship, and value. A company with 4.2 stars and exceptional written sentiment can outrank a company with 4.6 stars and shallow reviews.
Reliability Score
Consistency matters more than peaks. We track rating stability over rolling time windows. Companies that maintain high standards across hundreds of reviews receive a significantly higher reliability multiplier than those with volatile or declining patterns.
Profile Verification
Incomplete or unverified profiles are penalized in our model. A fully verified listing — with confirmed contact details, service areas, and business category — signals a company that stands behind its work. Verification status is factored directly into the final score.
Geographic Precision
Rankings are computed independently at the city, state, and national level. A plumber ranked #1 in Salt Lake City competes against the full roster of that market — not a national average. This ensures local relevance and prevents large franchise chains from dominating every regional list.
Weekly Recalculation
The plumbing industry is not static. Companies improve, decline, and change over time. Our entire ranking index is recalculated every seven days using the latest available data — so the rankings you see today reflect current performance, not a snapshot from six months ago.
The Rules We Never Break
These aren't policies. They're the foundation the system was built on.
Zero Pay-to-Rank
No company can purchase a higher ranking position. Period. Our model is entirely algorithmic — there is no advertising tier, no sponsored placement, and no way to influence your position except through better customer service.
No Algorithmic Favoritism
Large chains and franchise networks receive no bonus for brand recognition. A two-person local plumbing company can — and does — outrank a national brand if their customer data supports it. Size is not a factor. Performance is.
Transparent Methodology
We publish the signals we use. We don't publish the exact weights — that would invite gaming. But every company in our directory is evaluated on the same criteria, with the same model, every week.
Three Layers of Ranking
City Ranking
The most competitive and locally relevant scope. A plumber ranked #1 in Phoenix has earned that position against every other verified plumber operating in that city — based entirely on local customer data.
State Ranking
State-level rankings aggregate performance across all cities in that state. This is used to surface the strongest regional operators — companies that consistently perform well across multiple service areas.
United States Ranking
The national ranking is our most demanding benchmark. To appear in the top tier nationally, a company must sustain exceptional customer outcomes across high review volume in a significant market. Very few qualify.
